Thinking of all stakeholders, we can become irreplaceable for different reasons. But the underlying element for all of them; students, parents, colleagues and other staff members, is the relationships we’ve built. Someone else can come in to “do your job” but they’ll never replace who you are as a person and how you make people feel.

  2. George, Siri read this to me and it made me weep (ok more like that really ugly kind of sobbing ). Probably because I’m overly sensitive sensitive right now, but more so because they posted my position yesterday for an LTO. What a really great message in this post.

Couldn’t agree more George! Our positions can easily be filled with amazing educators. However, the ‘proof of the pudding’ is the reflective fond and warm memories of older students who recount in detail the exciting and yes, dare I say ‘fun’ learning experiences from many years back in their earlier grades. Their reflections not only on the learning, but also their memories of feeling safe in their learning environment. Their reflections of feeling happy to come to school each day. These are the teachers who leave a void.
