George, I think that this is a wonderful post, and since I never replied to your tweet on the subject, I thought that I would reply to your blog post instead. I think that my parents are the teachers that made the first, lasting impact on my life. My mom and step-dad are both in education, and since I was in Grade 2, I wanted to be a teacher too. When I was younger, I always had difficulty in school, and in Grade 2, I was identified with a non-verbal learning disability. At the time, I was told by the psychologist that due to this learning disability, I would not make it to university. I wanted to teach though, and I was determined to do what I loved! My parents taught me strategies to advocate for myself and succeed regardless of my needs. Thanks to them, I ended up going to university on an academic scholarship, and for the past nine years, I've been doing what I love: teaching. So thank you, George, for giving me the opportunity to share my story here, and thank you to my wonderful parents — Judy and Dave — for believing in me and inspiring me to teach!

I love hearing stories of second generation teachers! Thanks so much for sharing Aviva
Thanks George! I have many generations of teachers in my family, and likely many more generations to come. I can't imagine a better job!

That is a truly inspiring story, Aviva! Certainly one to share with, perhaps, older students who are told much the same thing and give up way too soon.
Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks Cyndie! You're sweet! It's definitely something that keeps me motivated, especially during those more stressful times of the year. "My story" is certainly the driving force behind my belief that all students can learn and can do amazing things too.
Thanks again!

You two are fantastic! I am so glad that the kids on the eastern side of Canada have you to inspire them.
Wow George! What a nice comment … thank you! Thanks for continuing to inspire so many of us here!

Wow Aviva! What an inspiring story! It has really touched me! Thanks for sharing it. I totally agree with George, kids on the eastern side of Canada are really lucky to have you.
Thanks Greta for your kind words! You're so sweet! Without a doubt, your students are just as lucky to have you too!

George, thank you so much for posting this. Thank you for continuing to inspire me during my preservice time. I have 2 teachers that I can say have made impacts on my life.
First, my high school English teacher, who is now my mentor for my upcoming apprenticeship teaching. She was the only teacher who took an interest in me, a wayward teenager, my freshman year of high school (also her first year of teaching). To this day, I can honestly say that I would have zigged instead of zagged if it were not for her. And she continues to help me believe in myself and the world around me, and to inspire me as an up and coming teacher.
Another teacher who touched my life was my college English professor, who recently passed away. Luckily, I had the opportunity to take one Master's level class with him for my degree the semester before he passed away, and at that time, I was able to relay to him just how much his friendship and guidance meant to me during my undergraduate career.
I have been infinitely lucky to have been touched by TWO superior teachers in my life, and it is they who inspire me every single day. Going into the teaching profession, I must thank them for always standing by me, and always guiding me in the right direction. I could not think of better people to model my own career after than them.
Jessica…thanks so much for commenting and sharing your story. There are so many teachers that have inspired us and you would be hard pressed to find an educator that can't share a story like this. In fact, if they couldn't, I would be worried. If you are going to touch someone's life, usually someone has inspired you to do this earlier
Thanks again for your comment!
Thanks again George! This is such a beautiful post. I loved sharing my story. I used to enjoy Daniela’s classes so much. I fell in love with teaching and the language. I'm an ESL teacher because of her. It was back then when I realized what I wanted to be when I grew up.
It was great to read other stories. I loved learning how other teachers have inspired us. We don't only have an amazing job. We have the opportunity of touching hearts and inspiring our students. We are so blessed.
