200 Days of School

What does a principal see everyday?  What are some of the images that inspire me to be better for my students?  The above picture is the first student arriving at school today and very eager to begin (he popped by the school 4 times last week so he was pretty excited when school opened this week).

I decided this morning, right before I pulled into the school, that I was going to take a picture everyday school was on, so I can share a “200 days of school” album at the end of the year.  I know that there are many “365″ projects, but I wanted to start with something that was school focused.

I challenge all educators out there to create a similar album and sharing what they see through the school year.  Your students may already be at school, so start tomorrow.  Let’s show the world how awesome our schools are!

Are you up for the challenge?

  1. What a fantastic idea! I always have my camera with me at school and am constantly snapping pictures to capture the students throughout the year. Our school year isn't quite 200 days, but for the number of days that it is, I'm determined to try out this project of yours. I can't wait to see just what this year brings … in pictures!:) Now I do wish that I was a more talented photographer, but maybe I can be with practice … :)

Thanks for inspiring me George to try something new!

I'm in George, in the spirit of "collaborative competition" (Fullan) I will participate. I have a Flicker account, an iPhone and 398 awesome kids with 40 faculty. Last season I started my "192 Daily Beliefs at School" this year I love the 200 pics of school idea.

This will be fun. Thanks for the open invite!

We are into the third week with students…and of course we only have 176 days of student attendance….(we need to do what Canada does by the way. I am going to do my best to post a pic a day. I am going to try to get students to help me with the project. Good idea!

    I'll give it a try.

This will be fun! You know – we (teachers) are in 200 days – so why not capture some of what goes on when the kids aren't there? An inside peek for the kids! Just a thought to round out your 200 days!

That is a great idea…I was also thinking whether I should take pics of when I am gone to meetings so kids know what I do…that is kind of boring though. I might need a second photographer?

I love your ideas! It will be so great to see all the pics at the year end assembly!Looking for a volunteer to take pics,I am so in there!

Ohhhh daily commitments scare me….I'll give it a go, but knowing my "all over the map" personality, I think I'll assign camera duty to a student a couple of times per week. It will be interesting to compare perspectives. I think the student pics will spurn on oral language sharing and writing. This could be a fantastic process tool and reflective piece.

This is a very cool idea. I am on board. I have plenty of Day 1 photos and will definitely keep the camera handy each day! I think the important thing is to not get discouraged if you miss a day. Because my track record with Project 365 isn't the greatest. :)

Excellent idea and challenge George. I look forward to following the day to day activities that are occurring at your school. It is great to see that with all the deadlines, changes and demands of the beginning of the school year. Your passion for students, relationships and sharing your experiences is still forefront in your daily reflections. Thanks for sharing, I will try to meet your challenge.

Hi there! I'm Hannah, the K-12 social media coordinator for Sensible City (a center for community empowerment) in Asheville, NC. Just wanted let you know that I follow your blog and twitter and think you introduce great topics to educators.

Qwizdom, a manufacturer of student response systems who I work with is hosting a blogging contest. They are giving away a classroom set of Q6 remotes, their latest student remote that allows for text input, to the three best bloggers. I thought you might want to enter or help spread the word.

Qwizdom’s mission is to support educators by getting every student to answer every question every time. The contest is free and open to educators in the U.S. Visit http://www.howdoyouq.com/ for more information or to submit a blog, photo, or video about why the Q6 would be a great addition to your classroom. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
